Every September, the Florida Department of Education highlights the Dads Take Your Child to School Day initiative. While appreciative of the role of mothers, the goal of this initiative is to focus on the considerable impact that fathers and father figures – stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, foster fathers and other significant male role models – have when they take an active role in a child’s education.
More than 30 years of research suggests that when fathers are actively involved in their child’s education, students perform better academically, have fewer discipline problems and become more responsible adults. Dads Take Your Child to School Day is one opportunity to shine a spotlight on the role of dads and male role models by encouraging men to get involved.
In honor of Father’s Day, we ask for your support in this important initiative to be observed on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Please help us now by spreading the word, sharing this flyer and information, and reaching out to your local school to learn how you may become involved. Many Florida students are in need of male role models and many schools are in need of partner connections; therefore, your participation is welcome in many ways.
