Citi Teen Center Opens in Springfield

Jacksonville, Fl- On Wednesday, August 28th, 2019, the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida opened the Citi Teen Center in Jacksonville’s historic Springfield neighborhood. Designed to serve local youth between the ages of 13 and 18 after school and during the summer, the Center is one of the few standalone teen centers in Northeast Florida.

The Citi Teen Center was formerly known the Laurence F. Lee Boys Club of Jacksonville, originally constructed in 1967. Now, the nearly 20,000 square foot building has been completely remodeled, equipped with a new gym, a state-of-the art computer and virtual reality lab, a dance studio, and a recording and music studio.

Many of the Citi Teen Center’s features were designed to assist local teens with college and career preparation. Specifically, at the College and Career Readiness Center, club members can update their resumes and practice interviewing. There is even a barbershop and cosmetology salon for teens interested in hairdressing and a print and embroidery shop for those interested in design.

Additionally, STEM education will soon be available to club members through Northeast Florida’s STEM2Hub. Through the organization’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Florida, club members will have access to robotics programs, programming lessons, and a virtual reality equipped computer lab.
